Camp-Jabulani - Team Tusker kids

Team Tusker kids enjoying some traditional African music with Camp Jabulani staff members

Recently the Swidler family and their five children came to visit us. Nathan, Asher, Rosie, Ava and Lily took part in Team Tusker, our popular children’s programme. We spent five fun-filled days painting, beading, baking and generally having a blast with the gregarious siblings.

We kicked the week off with some rock art, and the children set about the project with gusto, painting an array of colourful bugs, rainbows and mermaids.

No holiday is complete without a game of Monopoly, which (we’re embarrassed to admit) Nathan won by a landslide.

Camp Jabulani’s resident chefs oversaw our culinary efforts, which consisted of baking some delicious custard cookies, frosting cupcakes, and making coconut ice. We even made some traditional South African stokbrood (stick bread) and drizzled it with lots of golden syrup.

After showing the children how we make elephant dung paper, they made cards for their parents and friends.

Nathan turned out to be a budding chef, and spent as much time as possible in the kitchen helping the chefs to make meringues and éclairs. Reynecke (ranger) and I also took the children and their parents to visit the Khamai Reptile Park, where we all learnt a lot about the various snakes, crocodiles and other reptiles found in South Africa.

Our last day was spent making beaded necklaces and bracelets for the children to take home as souvenirs of their trip.

It’s true, time really does fly when you’re having fun. We enjoyed ourselves every bit as much as the children did and we were sad to see them go, because the camp was suddenly very quiet in their absence. Click here to see more photos of their visit.

See you in camp,

Nicolette and Elsie

The names of two are incorrect. It should be Asher and Lily

Thank you so much for pointing this out Mr. Swidler. We have corrected the spelling of Asher and Lily’s names in the blog “Team Tusker”.
